Greyhound Weekly welcomes Zak Walker

We are delighted to announce that Zak Walker has joined us as a regular columnist and feature writer at Greyhound Weekly. Zak runs the Greyhound Racing Ownership syndicate. Here’s a short introduction from Zak himself.

I am very thankful to be given to opportunity to join and write for Greyhound Weekly.

My greyhound journey started when I was 13-14 Years old. I would visit Yarmouth greyhound stadium with my family while on a caravan holiday. I knew even then this was something I would love. My passion for greyhounds unfortunately didn’t actually rekindle until 9-10 years later when my friend asked if I’d ever thought about owning a greyhound. I was a bit sceptical at first as it seemed very difficult.

As I am sure most of you are aware, IT IS! The information that is out there is very lacklustre. It’s near off impossible for a complete beginner to get started in ownership.

This is how “greyhound racing ownership” came about. I realised how confusing and almost impossible it was for people to become owners themselves, with the information out there.

So myself and a friend set up a syndicate so people can join for just £50 and enjoy the ownership experience!

We now have just over 20 owners and I am proud to say at least 15 are completely new to the sport.

We currently have 7 Dogs under our Syndicate with the aim of getting more for Romford.

The highlight of our syndicate has been “Bullet Wildcat” with Samantha Bonner at Hawksbury Kennels under Trainer Vicki Lea.

Bullet Wildcat started out in A10 at Monmore when he first arrived. He very quickly stepped up through the grades and picked up 7 Wins in just 14 Races!

Bullet Wildcat managed to win 3 Races in a row and he was also denied a second 3-race-wins-in-a-row in a photo finish!

What do I want bring to these posts?

I want to bring a fresh side to greyhound racing that I think it needs:

  • Better promotion on racing;
  • Promotion towards track attendance;
  • Pushing our sport to new viewers.

These 3 things are VITAL to keep our Sport going.

I will also be discussing what our syndicate does and how we operate, you can find our Syndicate on X @GreyhoundOwners
