Brave Tiber Flow holds off Ehraz in the Carnarvon Stakes

William Haggas trained Tiber Flow bravely held off a late challenge from Ehraz in the opener at Newbury today.

In this Class 1 (Listed Race) for three-year-olds, 15-8 favourite Tiber Flow hit the front at the one-furlong pole. Under Tom Marquand, who would go on to win the next on Ilaraab, the three-year-old colt looked for all the world to have the race won at this point.

However, winning The Carnarvon was never going to be that easy, and Ehraz (11/2), the mount of Jim Crowley, left it late to mount his challenge. Thundering up on the stand-side rail, Ehraz joined the winner on the line missing out only by a nose.

Sam Maximus hung on for third in what was a solid run for the 10-1 chance.
