I have trawled through the tipster columns, form guides and podcasts to bring you my best value Back and Lay exchange bets for tomorrow’s racing at Royal Ascot. Earlier, I posted the first three. Here are the last four.
Please, Gamble Responsibly.
4.20PM – St James’s Palace Stakes (7f 213 yards, Grade 1, Class 1 Colts)
The popular consensus ahead of the St James’s is that Coroebus should win it comfortably. Currently, the market agrees with this prognosis and has the Charlie Appleby-trained colt odds on at 4/6.
Although eight of the fourteen Racing Post tipsters have opted for Coroebus, there is some support for others. First, My Prospero is tipped to run a big race for trainer William Haggis, who has been in fine form this year.
Mick Fitzgerald loved the way that Coroebus went through the race in the 2,000 Guineas with “blistering acceleration”.
The Sporting Life recognises the potential of My Prospero, Maljoom and the Gosden’s Mighty Ulysses to go close but argues that to do so any one of these colts would need “to take another sizeable step forward to trouble” the selection.
I’m loathed to go against Coroebus in this race despite this being her first competitive race away from Newmarket. I fully expect My Prospero’s form to be blown off course albeit temporarily. I suggest opposing him for this one but look to lay at no more than 4.6. Lusail, identified by Mick Fitzgerald, is one for the each-way market where anything above 28.0 represents good value.
Echange Tips (win only market unless stated) Back: (Each-way market) Lusail>28 Lay: My Prospero <5.6
5.00PM – Ascot Stakes (2m 3f 210y, Handicap, Class 2 – Upcoming)
Sporting Life tips Reshoun for the Ascot Stakes. He is up in trip from a run at Haydock last month which saw him “an encouraging fifth”. He is a course and distance winner, having won this event last year and should go well.
Of the fourteen tipsters cited on the Racing Post, only ‘Spotlight’ is tipping Arcadian Sunrise. Like others, I will be looking elsewhere for value and opposing this Irish raider. Unless he’s found a little more, he is unlikely to have the pace to challenge. The market might offer a useful steer and if this is on the drift then my advice is to be quick to lay before the value disappears.
Exchange Tips (win only market unless stated) Back: Reshoun >16.5 Lay: Arcadian Sunrise <7.8
5.35PM – Wolferton Stakes (1m 1f 212y, Class 1 Listed Race – Upcoming)
The Wolferton Stakes is dividing opinion amongst tipsters with Cadillac being slightly favoured. It’s last run was at Leopardstown where it won in a style becoming of an Ascot winner. However, I’m tempted to oppose this one as there are others that I believe have stronger claims.
I’ve found some value (famous last words) and I’m tipping Tasman Bay and New Mandate to go well. New Mandate left some very good horses in his wake here in April before finishing a disappointing seventh of eight in the Lockinge at Newbury over a mile. I’m tipping Tasman Bay as an each-way Back bet at >22 but don’t be surprised to discover that I’ve found some value and backed New Mandate too.
Exchange Tips (win only market unless stated) Back: (Each-way market) Tasman Bay >22 Lay: Cadillac <7.8
6.10PM – Copper Horse Stakes (1m 6f 34y, Handicap, Class 2 – Upcoming)
Exchange Tips (win only market unless stated) Back: Okita Soushi >10.5 Lay: Bandinelli <14.5
