Notes from the track #4 – Epsom Downs 14th July

Nothing beats being at the track to accurately assess a horse’s performance. These notes are selected from the ones that I am using personally to help me provide better value tips to my readers.

These revised ratings and associated notes are designed to be used alongside other information that I hold and not in isolation. Please feel free to use these notes and my unofficial ratings (pR Rating) – if you feel that they might be useful to you in some way.

Volenti was held up early then squeezed along. Pushed along over 2f out, ridden to chase clear leader approaching final furlong, stayed on to lead towards finish. Competitive off pR 51 with a little more in the tank potentially. Not much though, I expect. Oppose above OR 56 over same distance.

Caius Chorister was given a red hood today. Much less coltish in the parade ring than 7 days ago, then went down to post very nicely. Weighted to go well with the rating well inside my previously suggested pR of 70. This filly was never off the bridal and won at an absolute canter against good horses at this level. Up to 74 next time out and will no doubt face further penalty after this win. Likely to be competitive off a mark of 74 next time out. Rating in my book is now pR 78. Continue to back up to 78. Let’s see beyond that. Still untested under pressure.
