Marmaan receives a whopping 22 ratings increase after Group 2 victory

This week’s highest mover is Marbaan. The Charlie Fellowes trained colt out of Oasis Dream (Sire) and Zahoo (Dam) has been smashed with a 22 rise in the official ratings (OR). The dramatic adjustment was made on the back of his Goodwood victory in the Group 2, Japan Racing Association Vintage Stakes, on 26th July. This 7 furlong race for two-year-olds saw the 14-1 shot run on strongly to head short priced favourite, Holloway Boy, close to home.

The official winning margin was declared at 1/2 length and this is a hefty rise considering that he has only beaten the winner of a poor Chesham Stakes in Holloway Boy. Of the first six runners in the Chesham, only Lakota Sioux has won subsequently.

All this points to a horse that has been slightly overrated in my opinion. Although he has very good form in the last three, he has been beaten by some of the other good horses in this category at Newbury over 6f. Given that The Foxes, who has also won since The Chesham, is allocated a 79 OR, the 111 OR for Marbaan could be much closer to 100.
