Three-year-old Vega Sicilia catches the eye in Novice Stakes at Kempton Park

Despite only managing to finish third in the novice race for 3-year-olds, in the 2.30 at Kempton Park on Tuesday, Vega Sicilia finished the race very sharply. With the impressive Maghlaak running away from the field, the chestnut gelding showed an eye-catching turn of foot inside the final furlong.

The 2019 novice, trained by Harry and Roger Charlton, looked out of the 1 mile race coming into the final two furlongs. A reminder from jockey, Trevor Whelan, saw Vega Sicilia pick up the pace. He briefly put his nose into second before the William Haggas trained, Wessall got back up to beat him into third.

It will be interesting to monitor what connections decide to do next with ‘Vega’ after such an eye-catching performance. I’ll be tracking this one carefully for final2furlongs.com.
