‘Romeo string’ dishes out tough love at Towcester with 3 winners on the card for Laurence Tuffin on Monday

Romeo Superstar (L. Tuffin) confirmed that he was far too dominant to remain in A3 company at Towcester on Monday morning, winning the 11:01 (500m) in devastating style. After winning the battle for the rail with the two dogs on his inside, this was a procession. Despite the even break, ‘Romeo’ had enough early pace to avoid any trouble at the first bend with only Dablondereturns in Trap 4 able to keep pace with him. With speed to spare at this grade, the race was effectively over at that point making the 11/8 price appear very generous indeed. A superstar at Grade 3, with a hand timed clock of 29.82, this effort was good enough to win a decent A2 race.

Makeit Tyson (F. Gray) went back to back after making the jump from A6 to A4 at Towcester on Monday in the 11.31 over 500m. However, the brindle dog’s winning time might suggest that he has just about found his level on the cusp of A3 at this early stage. ‘Tyson’ ran all over the track to finish in 30.25 showing some greenness and a need for pressure on his outside. Hampered at every bend by the wide-running Savana Mimi (P. Harnden) was Romeo Riot (L Tuffin) who would surely have put pressure on the eventual winner with a clear run.

There was little to stand in the way of Romeo Expo (L Tuffin) and a first win in A4 company. Showing plenty of class, he left the others bouncing around in his wake as he made all from Trap 5. His 30.04 (hand timed) was good enough to be competitive in A3 next time out and this puppy by Magical Bale out of Fabulous Pearl will surely continue to improve as he matures.

Race 9 on the card was won by Makeit Arla, a Sep21 bitch out of Nepal by Malachi. Frank Gray’s youngster won this fairly comfortably despite being slow away and having to mix it up at the first bend with Paul Philpott’s slightly more experienced Energy Crisis, who himself looks capable of winning in this grade before long.

Going the long way around, Romeo Explosion (L Tuffin) improved again to win the lucky last in 30.20, the brindle dog’s fastest time to date. To win in A2, he will need to find somewhere in the region of 30 spots which may take a little time.
