Kimmich on City’s shortlist to bolster midfield

With captain Ilkay Gundogan set to leave the Etihad on a free transfer, and with doubts over the future of Bernardo Silva, you would expect that there will be new additions in the middle of the park this summer.

Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich has been mentioned by mancitynews.com as a possible target. According to the City website, “The German is said to be unsettled and the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in the holding midfielder.”

Another alternative is former City youngster, Romeo Lavia. Lavia has impressed at Southampton, despite the Saints struggles against relegation. It has been reported that the 19-year-old has captured the attention of Liverpool and Manchester United. City may feel the need to prevent rivals capturing one of their own.

Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic has been heavily linked too, while a younger alternative could be Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga.

Forgotten man, Kalvin Phillips, may be ready to take his chance in the side after making the starting eleven just once this season in the Premier League.
