Moisés Caicedo to Chelsea update: No deal finalised yet

According to sources, Chelsea are continuing to work hard on a deal to take Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder, Moisés Caicedo, to Stamford Bridge, despite reported interest from Arsenal.

According to transfer news guru, Fabrizio Romano, “Talks have been taking place for weeks. Nothing done yet.”

It seems unlikely that Arsenal will bid on the 21-year-old Ecuadorian, not unless their interest in Declan Rice cools this Summer.

Caicedo made 31 appearances for Brighton last season, scoring once. At the World Cup, the young midfielder started each of Ecuador’s group matches, scoring in the 2:1 defeat to Senegal.

The young Brighton midfielder is better known for his defensive attributes than his goal scoring prowess. Last season, he was ranked 11th for the average number of interceptions made per game in the Premier League. Caicedo averaged 1.5. Ranked 7th in the league for average tackles made in a match (2.7), Caicedo is the archetypal defensive midfielder. He’s no slouch with the ball either. He rarely gives the ball away with a pass percentage of 88.8%.

Romano insists “It has always been Chelsea frontrunners despite rumours of Arsenal bid in the last weeks.”
