Belinda Green trained, Wasted Monday looks set to go off favourite in the Coral 500 Maiden Trophy at Hove tonight. The white and black dog is just a few days short of his second birthday and is already catching the eye of RPGTV presenter Dani Jackson.
Winning on debut last time out, Wasted Monday clocked 29.37 around Hove’s stiff 500. He’s also clocked 29.26 in a 3 dog trial and has plenty of improvement in him. On Twitter @Greens Greyhounds said “He looks to have a bright future for his new owners James & Vince who are new to ownership.”
The main threat may come on the inside in the shape of La Conquistador. Running out of Trap 1, Patrick Janssens black has plenty of early and led Wasted Monday until the third bend in the heat. If there is any trouble in behind, it’s possible that he could make all in the final with a clear run.
Of the others, Mark Wallis trained Mad For Sterling looks a powerful type. He reeled in Maree Master in his heat and ran on well to win. Trap 4 may suit better than 5 and he must be in with a chance on the clock.
The Coral Springbok Trial Stakes continue at Hove tonight over the hurdles. The 7:36 looks likely to be a particularly intriguing race between Ritzy Flyer in trap 3 and Behopefull, out of trap 6. Both have taken well to hurdling. Behopefull has run sub-30 seconds and may just go off favourite.
Fabulous Azurra, Havana Bale Out, and Aero Arran return to Hove after competing in the English Greyhound Derby. The 9:12 pits Aero Arran up against two dogs that have trialled very well in Pet Shop Boy and Borna Hero, who is on debut.
Tonight’s meeting is live on RPGTV and with the variety of racing on offer, this should be a great night of greyhound racing at Hove.
