Bristol City v Stoke City Preview

Bristol City will host a struggling Stoke side tomorrow at Ashton Gate Stadium with both sides looking to bounce back from defeats in their last match.

Alex Neil’s Potters side have had a poor start to the season only picking up seven points from their opening eight league games, leaving them 20th in the Championship table. Meanwhile, Bristol City have been a fairly mixed bag so far winning three, drawing three and losing two matches so far this season as they sit 9th in the league, just one point outside the play-off spots.

Bristol City suffered a 1-0 defeat last time out against a high-flying Leicester side thanks to a Jamie Vardy penalty with 20 minutes left on the clock. Similarly, Stoke endured a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Hull City at the BET365 stadium, this was followed up on Wednesday night as The Potters went out of the Carabao Cup to Bournemouth, leaving Stoke winnless in their last five matches in all competitions.

Nigel Pearson’s men have come out the better side of this clash in recent years having won three of the last five meetings between the two sides. However, City’s two defeats to Stoke during that time did come at Ashton Gate in April 2021 and December 2022.

Bristol City put on at outstanding attacking display last time they stepped out at Ashton Gate in a 4-1 win over Plymouth and they could be in with a chance of a similar result tomorrow with Stoke having only kept one clean sheet so far this season. If they are to do so then wide men Sam Bell and Mark Sykes will be hoping to get on the scoresheet yet again following their recent good form.
