Norwich City vs. Leeds United Match Report

Leeds United’s pursuit of the automatic promotion places continued on Saturday as they managed to salvage all three points after initially trailing 2-0 at Carrow Road.

Two moments of Crysencio Summerville magic earned United their third win in a row as Daniel Farke returned to the club at which he made his name in English football.

Farke’s return couldn’t have got off to a worse start as Norwich City took the lead inside the first five minutes.

Shane Duffy was on hand to glance his header home at the near post after being picked out well by Gabriel Sara who’s in-swinging corner was right on the money.

Glen Kamara squandered a good opportunity to equalise for Leeds when he dragged his effort wide of the post after linking up well with Georginio Rutter on the edge of the box.

Leeds threatened again when Joel Piroe was played in on goal by Dan James, but the Dutchman’s effort went wide of the post.

The roles were reversed when Piroe passed to James just inside his own half before going on a darting run towards the Norwich box. James did well to evade the challenge of Duffy and find himself time and space in the area, but he snatched at his shot and it flew well over the bar.

Both sides were creating chances at will in the first half as Sara had an opportunity to double the Canaries lead. Dimitrios Giannoulis cut the ball back to Sara, who’s strike narrowly missed out on nestling into the bottom right corner.

Sara eventually doubled City’s lead just before half time as some neat footwork in the area ensured he evaded the challenge of Kamara. The Brazilian then showed composure to take an extra touch in a congested area before blasting the ball past Illan Meslier at his near post to ensure the hosts entered the break on a high.

Leeds’ fightback began just after the hour mark when Rutter threaded a ball into the path of James who’s first touch took him towards the byline. James then flashed the ball across the face of goal and the ball ended up ricocheting off the keeper before it was bundled home by Duffy who had now scored at both ends.

After some attacking substitutions by Farke, United were in the ascendancy and were able to find an equaliser with just under fifteen minutes to go.

A short corner made it’s way to substitute Willy Gnonto, who rolled the ball into Summerville in space on the edge of the box. Summerville took a neat touch to his right before curling a spectacular strike towards goal that found the back of the net with the assistance of the inside of the right-hand post.

The Leeds United comeback was completed late on after Rutter’s precise pass from inside his own half set Summerville on his way as he drove towards the Norwich box. The Dutchman was then able to slow his defender down before cutting inside onto his right foot and finding the bottom right corner with pinpoint accuracy.

This result sees Leeds move up to third in the table as they continue to cement their place in the playoff positions.

Leeds will be looking to make it four wins in a row when they travel to the Bet365 Stadium to take on Stoke City on Wednesday night.
