France’s youngest ever goal scorer side-lined with ankle injury

Warren Zaïre-Emery, the youngest debutant and scorer for France in over 100 years, sustained an ankle injury during France’s 14-0 victory over Gibraltar.

The Paris Saint-Germain talent will be sidelined for the remainder of 2023. The injury occurred during his impressive debut where he scored his first goal for the national team before being forced off due to the ankle knock.

French manager Didier Deschamps provided an update on Zaïre-Emery’s condition, indicating a severe ankle sprain that will likely require several weeks to heal.

Further tests will be conducted to determine the exact length of his absence, but it is anticipated that the 17-year-old will not return to action for PSG before the Christmas break.

Despite the setback, Zaïre-Emery’s remarkable achievement as France’s youngest debutant and goalscorer has drawn praise from his peers, including Kylian Mbappé, who acknowledged the impressive nature of his performance.
